o show support for October Wills Month, QualitySolicitors Bradbury Roberts & Raby has teamed up with Barnardo’s to offer a free Will writing service for those aged 55 years and over. Whether you need a basic Will writing, or you simply need to update a current one, Barnardo’s will bear the cost of the Will writing service. All that Barnardo’s ask in return is that you consider leaving them a legacy gift in your Will.

Gifts in Wills play a crucial role in funding Barnardo’s vital services, with the Will Scheme already seeing over 3,400 people take part, and a huge £16.7m pledged in future legacy income for vulnerable and disadvantaged UK children. Barnardo’s hopes that you will be moved to remember the charity’s work in your Will; however, there is no legal obligation to do so.

QualitySolicitors Bradbury Roberts & Raby Partner, and Head of the Wills & Probate Department, Victoria Norman said people should consider a Will whatever their financial situation might be.

“Thinking ahead about what we would like to happen when we pass away can be an uncomfortable topic for many, but it can save a lot of extra grief for loved ones further down the track,” Miss Norman said.

Previous research by YouGov has shown that around 60 per cent of adults in the UK do not have a Will, with a fifth of people saying they are not wealthy enough to need one. The Citizens Advice service also reported a rise in the number of enquiries about people who have died without making a Will.

“Above all else, having a legally valid Will offers complete peace of mind that your final wishes will be carried out as requested and that any property and possessions you have will be distributed as you choose,” Miss Norman added.

“The value of your choice cannot be underestimated, and in this way your loved ones will not be left out of the estate. You also have the opportunity to contribute to other important causes you care about, such as the great work Barnardo’s do.”

Barnardo’s Senior Will Scheme Client Relationship Manager, Sue Westbury said the partnership with QualitySolicitors is invaluable.

“Barnardo’s would like to say a huge thank you to QualitySolicitors Head Office and all the member firms who participate in the scheme.”

The law surrounding estate planning and administration is complex and there are risks involved in having a Will that is not properly drafted, signed or witnessed. Using a solicitor reduces these risks and gives people reassurance that they will be protected if something does go wrong.
