On 20 July 2023 the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023 received Royal Assent. The Act will enable millions of workers more flexibility over where and when they work from day one of starting a new job. As a result, Employees are able to make 2 requests within any 12-month period and Employers will be required to consider, discuss and respond to any requests made by their employee within 2 months of receipt of the request. The Act will be supported by a Code of Practice currently being developed by ACAS whose consultation on the draft Code of Practice will run until 11.59pm on 6 September 2023. With a wide range of positive outcomes to both businesses and individuals’; engagement from all interested individuals and organisations with the consultation is strongly encouraged to help shape the approach to flexible working practices in the future.
